"Getting started with an EWI"
Question: I am a sax player (high school) and I've gotten really interested in wind controllers recently. I've been all over the web looking for info, and one thing I can never find is the price of this stuff. I've never done anything in midi.... How much would it cost to have a home EWI setup (I'm not gonna do a concert or anything)?

Answer: Check out the Wind Controller FAQ to start. This lists retail prices for the units, which of course you should never pay. An EWI 3020 with the analog 3020m module would run you $1000.00 or a little less. This price is available from Uncle Bob's Music in Milwaukee or the Woodwind & Brasswind as well as many other dealers. The 3020 controller with the PCM 3030m module will run about an additional $200.00 The consideration is what type of sounds you want. In order to hear the thing you'll need an amp, speakers or headphones. If you go with the 3020m you'll need a reverb unit as it has no built in effects. Reverb is necessary to make an electronic instrument sound natural. For this reason you may want to consider the 3030m which has built in effects (reverb). As a bare minimum you could plug headphones directly into the 3030m. It would be a good place to start.
