The EWI and EVI wind
controllers are extremely versatile and expressive instruments. All of the
EWIs and EVI use your breath, sax or trumpet-like fingerings, bite and
thumbs to control the instrument. As noted below the EVI1000,
EWI1000, EWI3000 and EWI3020 are controllers. They must be used with
a companion synthesizer module. This module can then in turn be
connected via MIDI to any other MIDI compatible device.
When using an external
sound module, you can program up to 4 note chords. Each note of the
chromatic scale can be set to a 1, 2, 3, or 4 note chord. (It has nothing
to do with which fingering you use to play the note.) When setting up your
chords, you just pick which notes will actually sound when you play a
particular fingering on the controller. The one exception is the EWI3030m,
which only allows parallel chord programming.
All of the Akai modules
feature an external in jack. This allows you to route the external
audio of another synthesizer through the EWI's module. This process
allows you to control the dynamics of the external synth via the EWI
module's filters. When using the external in you can mix the ratio
of volume between the Akai module and the external module.
